relationships
My first Wednesday Word post! This week I wanted to talk about relationships, because they are a big influence on our lives. I believe the Bible teaches that we are not meant to do life alone. When Adam was created, God said in Genesis 2:18, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”
Who we spend our time with truly determines where we go in life. I’m sure you have noticed that the people you spend time with the most start to influence you. Have you ever found yourself so interested in something you never would have thought about, simply because someone you love enjoys that specific thing? I think every girl has done this when it comes to the guy they’re interested in (I know I have lol). When you spend a lot of time with someone, and you enjoy their company, you begin to want to do what they do so you can spend even more time with them. Today there are many ways to become like someone you’re not because of social media. We see what others are interested in or how they spend their day, and we can easily try to do that. We also see others' opinions on various topics and we can form new opinions based on those, when we should be looking to the Bible. I have had seasons in my life where I was far from my family, single, and in the process of making new friends. It was in those hard times that I was actually closest to the Lord. I know that’s why He allows hard seasons in our life. So we can fully depend on Him. I believe it’s so important for our earthly relationships to be with spiritually strong people, so that even when we are spending a lot of time with people, we are also drawing closer to God.
How many of you feel like you are wanting to be like God above anyone else? Knowing God is very different from being so close to God that you want to do everything like Him and only be in His presence. I have let my worldly desires trump God and it’s a battle I fight all the time, but ultimately our relationship with Him is what matters most. I think the hardest part for me is that God is not a physical human being I can interact with. Although, I feel his presence and it’s strong and comforting. In those moments, that’s when I remember the reason I’m on this earth. To lead others to Him, so they can experience a connection like that. Sometimes life gets crazy, or we’re simply done with everyone and everything. There are going to be days where you don’t spend time with the Lord for a long time or maybe all you do is read a verse or pray a simple prayer. That is OKAY. We have those times with people in our life. What matters is that we want to find time with Him when we miss those days, and we strive to make Him a part of our day somehow.
Prayer: Lord, I pray that you would help me find truth in you and you alone. Help me to go to your Word when I’m struggling with anything, not social media or friends. I pray for strong relationships in my life that push me closer to you! Thank you for everyone you put in my path, may I be an example of your light. Amen.
